*It hadn't taken Roy long to get situated into the military here, after the pair settled in the inn that offered free rooms to newcomers. Their first priority had been getting some money together, and finding clothes that were more appropriate to their current setting... which left Ed with finding a job, as well. Deciding that he'd rather not deal with swarms of his own 'duplicates' in being part of the military again, job hunting was a new and unique experience for the Fullmetal Alchemist. He sighed, stopping in front of that welcome sign most residents were by now familiar with.*

This is stupid. It's not like I have any 'unique' traits in this damn place... What the hell could I do, anyway?

That's not true.

Everyone has certain traits that they're good at, even if they don't think about it...every single person from every world so far has different traits that are unique to them.

Mm? *Edward glanced up at the voice, blinking at the vision in front of him. Yeah, he'd dealt with doubles of himself and Roy ~~one of which he was pretty convinced was pregnant,~~ but this was an entirely new ballgame*

You're a .... girl. I'm sorry- *He waved a hand dismissively, studying her again and chalking it up to family resemblance before finally asking* You're not.. related to someone named Alfons, are you?

And for the record, all I seem to be any good at is getting myself into trouble.

*Alfons looks at him, studying him a moment.*

That can't be all you're good at. You're just selling yourself short, I think.

You're.... *Edward paused, opening his mouth to speak before closing it again. Then once more attempting to speak* I- .... You're a girl. *He repeated, uncertainly.* If this place is full of duplicates, I'm guessing you were, uh... Born like that? *Yeah, he's trying to put it delicately, and probably failing miserably, but that was hardly the point. After everything he'd witnessed this still wasn't on the list of things he was going to be prepared for.*

I've nearly gotten myself killed too many times to bother taking the risk that I'm not good at something. I'd need a job that's not dangerous, at least... Roy would worry otherwise, and I really don't want to listen to him nag about it.

*Alfons sighed, and she could already feel a pit of depression well in her gut. Did she really seem that strange? It was certain that in most worlds, Al was a boy...and she was mostly a man...but...

She shook her head, trying not to let it bother her.*

Yes. I was often mistaken as a boy in my youth, and I used to look very much like one...

*She twirls a strand of long hair around a finger.*

But shortly after meeting the Edward from my world, I've started putting on more...womanly qualities, I guess.

Well, I'm sure there are plenty of jobs that aren't dangerous here. I know that one of the Alphonses opened up a mechanic's shop in town, and I've been working with the other girl Alfons--before...before a lot of things happened, anyway--helping repair various things for people.

If anything, you could work as a waiter, or even some other odd job. It might not be much, but then again...

In my world, I did work for a magical shop, even though I wasn't too knowledgeable on the subject.

I was thinking about repairs, but... I'm sure plenty of people around here are capable of that, so.. It was a short lived idea. *He didn't seem to concerned with her first statement, offering a small apologetic smile* It's.. Nice to meet you, anyway. Sorry for, uh.. Being so surprised.

Magic shop...? *He quirked a brow, slightly* Do you get a lot of questions about that, too?

*Alfons quirked a smile, shaking her head.* It's nice to meet you too. But don't worry, it's all right. I'm used to it.

Yes. It's in a rather...far-off part of town, and I only worked at night, so often my Edward would send someone to walk me home, to make sure I didn't get hurt. But nobody here's really questioned it, I don't think. Where I'm from, both magic and Alchemy exist, so I'm familiar with both concepts, though I'm incapable of both.

Your ... Edward? *Sure, he'd been about to ask about what else she had said, but somehow- that was all that managed to come out.* Just how many are there?

Hm..... -=looks around=- I don't know what anyone here would be looking for... I'm a little curious myself how they can upkeep the food supply with all the Edwards around...

*He quirked an eyebrow, regarding Alphonse as if he were standing there in the most ridiculous outfit Ed had ever seen - the sort of look that practically screamed 'what the hell are you talking about?'* What's that supposed to mean?

Well... -=turns and looks at this Ed, regarding him for a moment=- I mean... there's so many new people here suddenly, and this is a city. Who's importing all the food? All the Eds I know have voracious appetites.

As far as I can tell, from the way things work here... Logical reasoning has very little to do any of it. Maybe the food gets stolen from other worlds, like the residents do. *He shrugged, smirking at that - as it was mostly a joke*

-=For a moment, he looks alarmed=- That's a horrid thought. Then everyone else is hungry, too. And I don't see the balance in it. -=chews on his lip for a moment.=- You're still looking for a job, then? Do you really think we'll be here that long?

*Mm... Alphonses - he was never very good at dealing with them, was he? He was still smirking, although now at the internal joke and not the previous one* Well, look at it this way. We came from other worlds, so if the same amount of food that would have fed us is also brought here, it evens out. At least... I think so. *Edward was quite honestly growing a little nervous now, he hated nothing more than to get on Al's bad side and if there was one talent he was sure he had, that was it*

I'm not sure how long we'll be here, but if people have already been here for months - we need to start planning for the same, don't you think?

-=he didn't like this train of thought. He had to get home and back to his own brother and the like. He didn't want to be here.=- But.. if we're all coming into this city... who's coming out?

I...have a question for you? Does the lion and the mouse mean anything to you?

I'm not sure. Maybe there weren't many residents here to begin with, and that has something to do with us all being brought here... *Edward shrugged a shoulder, still not familiar with the happenings of this place yet*

-=small, sad smile.=- Don't worry about it. I've been keeping an eye out for my own brother and it's something he would known. -=small, sad laugh=- I only have a few ways to differentiate between my Ed and all the other ones... It seems really sad, sometimes.

-She blinks, staring for a moment-

...Hi! ...uhm, what are you looking for? A job or something?

I... uh.. *Yes, this is Edward staring back. Blankly. Another Al, and was this one... female? This was getting more confusing - but this time, Ed decided not to ask any questions*

Yeah. I just... Need to do something with my day, while Roy's at work. I get a little - bored.

-She blinks, tilting her head, still smiling happily though-

Oh, I see~ Makes sense, I'm starting to get a bit bored here by myself, too.

Hmm... I know! We can look for a job together, then~ -automatic cliiing-

*Edward jumped as the Al clung onto him, blinking at her in confusion. It was still taking some adjusting to... Remembering not to panic at every Al that spoke to him. He offered a weak smile at the suggestion, before shrugging* I don't see why not. Any ideas? I've never actually had to look for a job, before.

-Obviously unaware or just not caring that he jumped, she grinned up at him, listening to him quietly. She let out a hum before shrugging-

N-not really...See, my parents paid for everything...so, we're both a bit new at this~

You don't need any unique talents to perform a job. Just apply for any that look like they could pay well and do what you're assigned to do.

I'm not really worried about the money. I just need something to do during the day.

Well... Not exactly my Al. But he comes from a world that's just like mine, except for some big details we hadn't talked about before...

I run a potions shop. *sighs*

Oh.. *He didn't continue to touch on that subject, not liking to discuss Als of any nature, so switched gears to the topic of the job. Being from a modern day 'reality' the blond viewed potions shops as most people nowadays do. Superstitious bullshit - which he knew nothing about.*

So, you sell... trinkets and stuff? Like enchanted candles, or something like that?

*blinks* ...but if you are interested in buying a enchanted candle, I can see what I can do for you.

I sell potions and teas for now, ingredients for potions if another wizard appears and shows interest. Sleeping potions, calming potions, reanimating potions, potions against cold... That sort of thing.

Well...

Now that I find myself with a business thrown on me ~~that I never wanted~~ I'm hiring.

Really? What kind of business is it?
