*walking, walking... and certainly not keeping his eyes to the ground, no. so if there are any small animals lying in his path emoing out, well... they should probably move out of the way*
..... [Being emo. You know what that's none of your damn business.]
He has a mind of his own, he can lay where he wants! Don't avoid my question! Why the hell weren't you watching where you were going!? [still holding him by the collar.]
*narrows his eyes ever so slightly, metal arm coming up to grab at the wrist that's holding him by the collar* I've got a mind of my own, I can look wherever the hell I want while I walk. Like I knew a cat was gonna be sprawled out in the way. Animals normally get the fuck out of the way if it looks like they're gonna get hit by something.
[He doesn't really have anything to say to that without giving away the fact that his brother's not entirely an animal, so he just hauls back with his right hand a slams a punch into the other Ed's face.
*barely even staggers as he takes the hit like a man, turning his head right back to glare at the double* ...So that's where this is going, huh?
*that metal hand's grip tightens around the other's wrist, holding him fast while his good hand balls into a fist* You're gonna freak out this much over your damn immobile cat?!?!
[The words hurt more than the punch, eyes widen in surprise at his words before narrowing into a glare - completely unprepared for the blow, but refusing to move with a growl.]
[He tightens his grip on the collar, tugging as if to jar some sense into the other Ed, teeth clenched]
He's not just a cat! [Yeah it was a risk but right now he didn't care]
*his automail clenches still more tightly around the other's wrist, more as a warning this time to back the fuck off unless he wants to hurt some more. though those words are kind of working to wedge some ideas, however odd, into his head about that cat... but he's still more inclined to go with what's more logical*
Oh what, he's a "member of your family," is that it? He's still a cat, and it's not my fault he didn't move!!
It is your fault you weren't watching where you were going!
And he is a member of my family- [he cuts himself off there, a flicker of fear in his eyes before they set with determination again, quietly adding the rest]
He's all I've got left, and I think something's wrong with him [because why else would he be laying out like this on the sidewalk, letting random idiots kick him flying through the air] so I'm not going to just stand around and let someone kick him because he didn't get out of the way.
*and that settles that. eyes widening, Ed loosens his grip on his wrist, just staring at him in shock* You mean...?
*he's quiet for a moment, processing this - yes, it's entirely possible that he's... then he starts looking around for signs of where the cat went, since he definitely didn't see what happened to it- him. his grip on his wrist tightens just slightly, enough to try to pry that arm off of him* He could just be sick. You should probably take him somewhere safer so he can rest.
[He's actually about to release his grip when the other's slackens, be his grip tightens again - catching Ed by surprise so he doesn't let go right off]
[It's then that he realizes he doesn't know where Al went. 'Safer' that was laughable, but he kept his expression serious - shrugging and trying not to be too thrown off by this Ed's total acceptance of what he just said]
Yeah, once I find him I'm taking him back to the inn where we're staying with some friends. Until we can get out of this place, anyway.
[After a moment he lets go of the fabric in his grip, hoping to be released in return, from the steel death grip]
*He frowns a little, but not out of any kind of disapproval. It's just... Staying with some friends. That must be nice.*
Right, well. *He lets go once he's released, taking a second to straighten his clothes out before looking the area over again* First things first, you gotta find him. You didn't see how far he could've gone?
*doesn't notice the glare at first, too lost in his thoughts about how it was possible for the body to be perfectly fine despite the soul-body incompatibility problem. but he pulls back soon enough with a thoughtful sound, tapping a finger to his chin... and then his gaze snaps back up to the other Ed's face*
Hmm? Oh- *waves a hand dismissively* No, it's nothing. Forget it.
[Not really going to press it any more than that because if this other Ed started asking questions he wasn't prepared to answer he'd have himself in a tough spot.]
*curious as he is, Ed recognizes a secret when he sees one. and given his own nature and the nature of all his doubles, he knows well enough not to push it. he raises both his hands up in a submissive sort of gesture, giving the other Ed a knowing look*
Really, it's nothing. *nods at the tired kitty in his arms* You should probably go back to where your friends are. Let him get some proper rest.
[The look caught him off guard, as he hadn't really had a chance to go around and see just how understanding of a situation like that the others could be. At the words he simply nods, smirking slightly]
Yeah, you're right. Thanks for uh- [not beating me to a pulp] ... Just- thanks.

[Pauses. Stares at him a moment because a;dlskfja treating his brother LIKE A CAT is all kinds of weird.
but picks him up anyway]

<What do you want?>
no subject
To make sure I'm not sitting here talking to an actual cat, if that's not too much to ask.
What are you doing, just curled up out here?
no subject
<Nothing. I just don't feel like talking to anyone.>
no subject
All right, I'll leave you alone. I was going to get something to eat, anyway.

Ed opens his mouth to say something but seems to think better of pointing it out.
So instead he simply decides on taking Al with him and not talking to him. Good plan]
I wonder what's a good place to eat...

No, I was too busy trying to-

Although he does kind of lean away protectively, holding Al more comfortably as he curled up now - quirking an eyebrow at the other Ed's curiosity]
What-? You look like you've never seen a cat before.

Just careful where he wanders off on his own. If my Al ever got a hold of him, he'd wanna keep him for himself.
