Well, you're in the military, and Hughes is--was, too...

Anyway, you're a colonel (my CO, actually), and a state alchemist. Damn good one, too.

Interesting. I used to be an auror, I suppose it comes close to being a military around here...

Hughes was? What is he now? He was never an auror in my world, though he likes to play investigator when he is not busy with his classes or our children.

*smirks at the praise* I see. You are an auror in my world as well, you were paired with Riza when I dropped to become a professor. You investigate suspiscious people who deal with non-magical folk and/or suspiscious magical artifacts. You both have a pretty high rank as well.

You went to the same school as me, we were boarded in the same room.

Well... *shifts uncomfortably* Hughes was killed, actually. He and the Colonel I know were pretty tight from way back, but he had a wife and a daughter... *trails off, then changes the subject*

Hawkeye, huh? That's not a bad deal. She's a good soldier on my side too.

Well, we don't know just yet. Something bad's going on with the higher ups behind the scenes, and Hughes did some digging... I guess they thought he knew too much. The Colonel's determined to figure it out though, take charge, get rid of all the corruption... I think this sort of settled things for him. He was always ambitious before, but... now he's got a reason.

*is a little flusterd* I don't know about all that... I'm just a soldier. I do my job. *shrugs*

Maes has always had a talent for sticking his nose were it does not belong. Sometimes his curiosity has made my hair stand on end. Now I guess I know why.
