The how I suppose you already know. The why, well, that can be deduced too.
Maes is the other parent. I am married to him where I come from.
*casts the concealing charm once more, but Havoc can still see his belly*
*takes a small pack of herbs from his robes and tosses it at him* If you have a pipe... My friend Jean quite likes those. He says they calm his nerves a whole lot.
I do not think his reasons were the same as yours.
Some magical herbs, I think. I never cared to learn, I don't know much about herbology. It's Edward who prepares them, I just serve as an intermediate between him and Jean. If you understand anything about herbs, ask Edward when you find him around... He is wearing wizarding robes much like mine.
Interesting. I used to be an auror, I suppose it comes close to being a military around here...
Hughes was? What is he now? He was never an auror in my world, though he likes to play investigator when he is not busy with his classes or our children.
*smirks at the praise* I see. You are an auror in my world as well, you were paired with Riza when I dropped to become a professor. You investigate suspiscious people who deal with non-magical folk and/or suspiscious magical artifacts. You both have a pretty high rank as well.
You went to the same school as me, we were boarded in the same room.
Well... *shifts uncomfortably* Hughes was killed, actually. He and the Colonel I know were pretty tight from way back, but he had a wife and a daughter... *trails off, then changes the subject*
Hawkeye, huh? That's not a bad deal. She's a good soldier on my side too.
Was it because he was an auror, or did they have another reason? *his expression is just as it was before, but Havoc might notice a slightly change* *doesn't notice he called the alter Maes auror instead of militar*
Yes. Hawkeye is a great auror... So are you, in your own right.
Well, we don't know just yet. Something bad's going on with the higher ups behind the scenes, and Hughes did some digging... I guess they thought he knew too much. The Colonel's determined to figure it out though, take charge, get rid of all the corruption... I think this sort of settled things for him. He was always ambitious before, but... now he's got a reason.
*is a little flusterd* I don't know about all that... I'm just a soldier. I do my job. *shrugs*
......... Maes has always had a talent for sticking his nose were it does not belong. Sometimes his curiosity has made my hair stand on end. Now I guess I know why.
*grins* Right. He is as modest as you. Maybe you are better than you are letting on as well.

*is sure now that this Havoc is not from his world*

Um, at least I got a light, right?
*tries not to freak out*

I assume you are new around here.

How could you tell?
*mutters to self* Next he's gonna tell me he's pregnant or something...

*blinks* What? *looks down at himself* I forgot the concealing charm again? You can see it?

*misses due to shock, pack smacks him in the face*
Damn, I'm gonna need some nerve-calming now...

The people from this place are really like the ones from my own. *lights his wand again, in case he needs the fire*

*holds up herby business, thinking he might just need it*
What's in this anyway?

I know the Maes from there too? What do I work on?

Anyway, you're a colonel (my CO, actually), and a state alchemist. Damn good one, too.
So there's a me where you come from?

*gets a hold on himself, but the hand holding the wand is now tightly gripping the handle, and his other hand is over his stomach once more*
I see... Who killed him?

*turns his back to him abruptly*
I will see you around. There is... something I need to do right now. *stalks off, his cloak billowing behind him*
